Discover the journey of San Pietro and see why Piero, Michelle and the rest of the team are here 20+ years later
For more than 20 years, San Pietro has brought Lincolnshire and the surrounding boroughs an irreplicable authenticity derived straight from the foothills of Sicily.
A truly remarkable journey, for over two decades Piero, Michelle and their dedicated team have overcome local criticism and destructive storms. But despite the challenges the years have posed, they have never strayed from their path to deliver the most memorable and authentic Sicilian and Italian dining experience in the county.
Staying true to his Sicilian heritage and a passion for artisanal produce that has been passed down through myriad generations, Piero and his accomplished chefs working the San Pietro pass, focus on quality and authenticity in the kitchen.
Harking back to a childhood spent in the sunshine, surrounded by olive groves, Piero takes inspiration from the meals he enjoyed with family, in his hometown of Villalba. No stranger to a Michelin star, having cheffed under Giorgio Locatelli during his career, Piero has worked alongside some of the most highly regarded chefs in Italy and Sicily over the years – a time that has delivered countless opportunities to learn and grow.
And it is all of this priceless experience that is being passed on to his talented team today so that together they can breathe life into unique dishes that effortlessly pair Piero’s nostalgic love of traditional Sicilian fayre with contemporary, innovative, gourmet plates.
Every bite, every detail, is designed to wow diners. And that doesn’t just apply to the 2AA Rosette food. The interiors and surroundings at San Pietro are just as considered as the menu. From the stunning exterior of the windmill with its onion-shaped ogee and ball finial to the intimate bar area with plush velvets and dark corners that are begging to be enjoyed with a cocktail or bottle from the curated wine list, not forgetting the sleek, stylish restaurant area, complete with crisp white table cloths and gilded details that add a certain gloss to the space.
With 14 boutique-style rooms onsite, there’s no need to return to reality either – not until after a seriously good night’s sleep at least. Stay in San Pietro’s very own version of Sicily a little longer and enjoy a stunning, individually designed room, cloud-like Hypnose bed, rainfall shower, Molton Brown toiletries, smart TV, and Wi-Fi. On a sunny afternoon head to the ‘Giardino’ courtyard grounds to soak up a real taste of the Mediterranean in the heart of Lincolnshire or explore some more of what this stunning county has to offer – from the industrious centre of Scunthorpe itself to the vast expanses of coastline and the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB.
Filling a gap in the market all those years ago, the decision to open a restaurant in Scunthorpe has more than served the San Pietro family well.
“Opening the doors to San Pietro and making its story a success has been one of our greatest achievements as a family,” said Michelle.
And that sentiment, that dedication to ‘family’ has stayed at the heart of San Pietro ever since. Always treating their customers as though they are family, like they are coming into the home of Piero and Michelle, everything from the welcome on arrival to remembering their favourite dishes and drinks, and the added little homemade touches that they can only experience at San Pietro.
“We have seen families and friends go full circle, sharing their milestones. From new arrivals and weddings to big anniversaries and celebrations, we become a part of their traditions and that truly is a privilege. Now it is our privilege to be able to celebrate our own milestone with our loyal customers.”
A highly unusual and totally unforgettable venue, despite its humble location and ‘hidden treasure’ vibe, San Pietro never fails to impress. Crowned Best Restaurant of the Year at the 2022 Lincolnshire Life Taste of Excellence Awards, the UK’s funkiest bed and breakfast awarded by the AA, and with citations in the Michelin Guide, Harden’s UK Restaurant Guide and the Good Food Guide, the San Pietro team is no stranger to accolades.
With its rich heritage, historic location and award-winning dining experience, it’s easy to see why San Pietro has also become known for hosting Insta-worthy, intimate weddings. Held in the iconic windmill, or the venue’s additional two function suites, San Pietro offers bespoke event packages to make your dream celebration a reality.
